Local Firefighters Get Hands-On Emergency Training at Knoepfler Chevrolet
(SIOUX CITY, IA – April 9, 2021) Knoepfler Chevrolet hosted Electric Vehicle Extrication Training for The Sioux City Fire and Rescue (SCFR) Technical Rescue Team.
This joint safety program led by Officers of the Technical Rescue Team and Dealer, Ben Knoepfler, will better prepare local firefighters for emergencies involving electric and hybrid vehicles.
The Chevrolet Bolt EV was used for a hands-on extensive overview and demonstration of current EV systems and potential hazards.
Officers say knowing the threats before attacking an electric vehicle fire leads to quicker, safer responses.
“Understanding how these vehicles are made and what happens to them if they fail will not only help protect our firefighters, but it will help us better protect our community members and everyone involved in these types of emergencies,” says Fire Lieutenant, Garret Soldati.
As major car companies like GM prepare for an all-electric future, Knoepfler says these vehicles will continue to grow in popularity and availability and so will the need for this type of collaboration.
“We are honored to be a part of this,” adds Knoepfler. “It’s a great way for us to use our resources to help the people who do so much to help everyone else.”
